Dear Central Middle School Families,

 

Today was, unfortunately, a frustrating day at Central Middle School.  

 

First, at around 12:30 PM, a student pulled the fire alarm. The building was evacuated while the school was searched by the EP Fire Department. Students returned to the building once it was determined that it was a false alarm. Central Middle School administration was able to determine which student pulled the alarm.

Later this afternoon, it was brought to a staff member's attention that a different student, in a wholly unrelated event, threatened to bring a weapon to school. No specific threat was identified, but the student making the report was concerned enough, and rightly so, to tell someone. EPPD was contacted and commenced an investigation. No credible threat was identified. The student in question, who admitted making the comment earlier in the day, insisted that the comment was a simply a bad joke. 

Unless the police department tells us there is a reason not to do so, all scheduled classes and events at Central Middle School will go on as regularly scheduled tomorrow. If it is determined that the behavior of an individual or individuals presents a danger to any staff or students, appropriate steps will be taken and parents notified. For now, Central and District administration are working with the Evergreen Park Police Department to bring this issue to a safe resolution. As an additional precaution, the Evergreen Park Police completed a thorough search of Central MS this evening and found nothing out of the ordinary.

 

Unfortunately, we cannot begin to guess at the motivation or intent behind the kind of threat that we heard today.  We must, and we do, take all such threats to the safety of our students and staff seriously. Please know that we do not intend to allow these events to dampen the excitement that we have for our upcoming Graduation and other end-of-year ceremonies. We also respect the right of every person entering Central to feel safe while at school.

Estimadas familias de Central Middle School,

Hoy fue, desafortunadamente un día muy frustrante en Central Middle School.  

Primero, alrededor de las 12:30 PM, un estudiante jaló la alarma de incendios. El edificio fue evacuado mientras el Departamento de Bomberos de EP inspeccionaba la escuela. Los alumnos regresaron al edificio una vez que se había determinado que era una falsa alarma. La administración Central Middle School pudo determinar que alumno fue quien jaló la alarma. 

Más tarde, un miembro del personal se enteró que un diferente estudiante, que no tenía absolutamente nada que ver con el primer evento, amenazó con traer un arma a la escuela. No se identificó una amenaza específica, pero el estudiante que hizo el reporte estaba suficientemente preocupado, y es así como se lo dijo a alguien. El Departamento de Policía de Evergreen Park fue contactado, e inició una investigación. No se identificó una amenaza creíble. El estudiante en cuestión, quien admitió haber hecho el comentario anteriormente, insistió en que era simplemente una mala broma. 

A menos que la policía nos diga que hay una razón para no hacerlo, todas las clases y eventos en Central Middle School seguirán sucediendo regularmente como están programadas para mañana. Si se determina que el comportamiento de un individuo o individuos representa un peligro para algún empleado o estudiante, se tomarán las medidas pertinentes y los padres serán notificados. Por ahora, Central y la Administración del Distrito están trabajando con el Departamento de Policía de Evergreen Park para que este asunto se resuelva de una forma segura. Como medida de precaución adicional, esta noche la Policía de Evergreen Park realizó una búsqueda exhaustiva en Central MS y no encontraron nada fuera de lo ordinario. 

Desafortunadamente no podemos empezar a adivinar el motivo o la intención detrás de lo que escuchamos hoy. Debemos de tomar seriamente toda amenaza a la seguridad de nuestros estudiantes y personal, y así lo hacemos. Por favor, tome en cuenta que no vamos a permitir que estos eventos empañen la emoción que tenemos por nuestra próxima graduación y demás ceremonias de fin de año. También respetamos el derecho de toda persona que entre a Central a sentirse segura en la escuela.
